Fear

What’s the thing you’re most scared to do? What would it take to get you to do it?

If you’ve lived a life like I have, there isn’t a lot that scares you anymore. There have been a lot of situations where I’ve had to do something I was terrified of doing.

The first that comes to mind was joining the military. I’d made the decision to join a military branch back in 2010, but I couldn’t decide which branch. I was nervous about all of them, but the Army terrified me the most. So, that’s the branch I enlisted in. For me, doing something that I was afraid to do showed me who I was. It showed me my true character. I never would have pictured myself in the Army, but now I can’t imagine never being a soldier.

I’ve had to do many things since 2010 that scared me.

I reported my rapist, which terrified me. I gave birth to my son, which terrified me. I had cancer and went in for my first ever surgery, which terrified me. I divorced my son’s father and moved across the country. I was a single mom and that terrified me. Recently, I had to go back under for another surgery and that terrified me.

I say all of that because I did those things, scared out of my mind, but the outcomes were beyond worth it. My health and happiness have flourished after doing the things that terrified me.

So, just knowing that, gets me to do the things that scare me the most.

  1. This is a very encouraging post! I admire your courage and endurance. It’s always good to face our fears and to take the required actions in given situations. Cheers!

    1. Thank you so much! 😊 I know when I was growing up, I’d read these books about fantastically brave people who did what they had to do, even though they were scared. As a kid, I always hoped I would be like that too.
